Sara Puig Laas (1930-2026), Founder
The original visionary and founder of the Immigrant Hall of Honor
Sara Puig Laas founded the Immigrant Hall of Honor in 2024 with the belief that immigrant stories have the power to build understanding, preserve history, and change the conversation around immigration in America. A lifelong writer, interviewer, storyteller, and advocate for education, Sara spent her later years working to help bring this vision to life.
Civic involvement was always a priority for the Laredo native. A graduate of the University of Texas, Laas served as an officer on many arts-related boards, including the Writers League of Texas in Austin. Her long career included Human Resources Management for a bank, interviewing prominent authors and other guests on television, and small business owner.
In retirement, her non-fiction and poetry were published in anthologies and other media.
