An accomplished retired educator, communications professional, and published writer with more than 35 years of experience leading educational initiatives, developing strategic partnerships, and fostering community engagement, Carmen has demonstrated a commitment to advancing organizational missions through collaboration, thoughtful leadership, and effective communication.

For over 25 years, she has operated a successful private tutoring practice, designing individualized English and Spanish curricula that support diverse learners while strengthening educational access and achievement. In the communications sector, she has served as both a writer and editor for multiple publications, interviewing senior executives from organizations including Morgan Stanley, AT&T, Texas Mutual, and Austin Film Studios. She has cultivated relationships with multiple business leaders, coordinated executive events at the Harvard Club in NYC and Chicago and deepened stakeholder relationships.

Her editorial experience includes proofreading, business communications, media interview preparation and execution, newsletters, and strategic messaging.

As the daughter of a Mexican-American mother, Carmen brings valuable cultural perspective and an inclusive leadership approach to her work. With her decades of experience in education, strategic communications, mentorship, relationship building, and community engagement, Carmen adds a collaborative, mission-focused perspective to board service.
